Is wood hardener any good?

I'm trying to drill holes in spalted beech, which can be a bit punky. Is it worth trying wood hardener, or is it just a botch up?

I Think you will find it only hardens as far as it can penetrate , so mostly surface and just below

Might be enough just to get a drill through.

Highly diluted shellac or thin cyano-acrylate are very good wood hardeners, and you almost surely have got one or the other at hand. :wink:
