Found this at car boot is it a roofing hammer? Doesn't look quite right to me.

Any idea of the make from trademark logo? The head is about 5 inches tip to tip.

Snail brand is very well known to users of older, large industrial spanners, and to vintage car and machinery enthusiasts. It was the trademark of Thomas Smith & Sons of Saltley, Birmingham. The company was formed in 1848, and failed some time in the early 1970s, though someone must have bought the trademark because Snail Brand spanners are still available new. The original company made, at various times, hammers, pipe wrenches and garden tools.

Edit to add - yup, Snail Brand is still being made in Birmingham - http://www.smithfrancistools.co.uk/

I have a rather nice American Wedge pattern axe, 1 1/2 Lb by Snail, as well as some of their (as you say) high quality spanners.

I once saw a nice little 1 Lb ball pein hammer by them, but didn't buy it :-(
