Hi guys, I did my leg in last week & borrowed a friends walking stick for a short while.

She asked me if I could find out what the wood was, as the stick belonged to her Grandfather who was a Merchant Navy Captain - I've seen the wood before & I have a pen blank of the same, but I don't know what it is.

Any ideas on the wee fist too?

Is there any good link you guys know of to a timber ID website perhaps, I used to collect wild mushrooms in Scotland & I used an excellent Mushroom ID website - perhaps there is a good one for timber?

Cheers guys.

Interesting. I have an inherited walking stick possibly of the same wood, but the noticeable thing is its weight. Is your's unexpectedly heavy? Mine could be a lethal weapon if required :!:
