HELP Local wood turners Birmingham Area.

Are there any wood turners in the Oldbury area of Birmingham?
I'm just getting into wood turning and was looking for anyone local to me who could give tips and advice.
At present do not own a lathe because of funds.
So any help would be brill.

I'm after hands on experience has only ever turned steel with stranded tools never with chesels and need to learn more about different types of wood

i go there once a month has there have been a lot of demos from guest turners,so not had chance to do much turning.But am picking up some basic tips.

Hi

Whilst there is no substitute for hands on experience, the next best thing, in my opinion, is to get a copy of Keith Rowley's book, 'Woodturning A Foundation Course', read it cover to cover and absorb everything in it. Forget You Tube videos for now, too many opinions which you do not have the experience to filter will just serve to confuse you.
