Hi guys new to lathes in general so forgive me if my questions appear obvious to some of you.

Seen videos on youtube of lathes being used to fit ferrels and tips onto snooker cues.

The cue shaft appears to pass through the centre of the headstock spindle and is obviously held in place by the jaws of the chuck with the aid of a plastic collet to protect the shaft.

My question is are all headstock spindles hollow allowing a wooden spindle/cue shaft to pass through and out the back?

No, not all.

My Cl3 is solid, direct drive lathes are more than likely to be solid also, the Vicmarc at the club is hollow,

But i cannot see the problem with the use of "measuring" to tunr or fit tips to cues ?

Very few wood lathes of a pattern likely to be found in a home workshop will have a hollow spindle with enough clearance to do that, most will have 10-12mm at most just to allow access for a knock out bar or small boring auger and feed for a Vacuum Chuck.

Ok thanks. Looks like that ideas a non-starter then.

Thanks Chipmunk just what I was on a bout. A quick search on youtube or google shows this is big business in America and a number of manufacturerers make small specialist cue repair lathes for this very job aimed at the D.I.Yer to use at home.
Looks like its never caught on over here and maybe importing one is the only option.
