Hi all,

here in the UK, can one get a "grandpa's" style wireman licence. This is when a mature person wishes to obtain an appropriate skill without having to pass through the standard apprenticeship. You must still pass the theory and practical though!

Is there such an item here in UK?

Just asking!

Yes, there a number of trades where NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 can be obtained by "visual assessment of competence" following an interview and a paper safety awareness assessment. Proof of time within the appropriate trade is normally called for as well. The NVQ 2 Bench Joinery typically takes 8 to 12 weeks of assessment.
