first attempt turning a small piece of oak tried to make a small pot purrie dish . well tried it was not bad 1st attempt thought .either my chisels are blunt or real hard piece of wood.the closer to the centre of the grain the harder it seemed.either that or do the hoovering in the house. obvious which one i choose.only my second attempt on my lathe.hope i can keep the intrest going . ps get well soon bill...............

Oak is tough stuff, especially when it gets old, but saying that , sharp tools will still cut it (but you will struggle with blunt ones).

The closer you get to the centre of the bowl, the slower it is turning so yes it does seem to get tougher, again not so noticeable with a sharp gouge. keep at it!
