Fridge/freezer motors

Does anyone happen to know where I can get some (3 maybe) matching fridge/fridge motors?

I was in Iceland yesterday and one was getting swapped. Made me think there must be a way to get hold of used ones.

Our local tip won't let you near them.

Working ones are available on Amazon, scrap ones are usually sold by the ton I beleive

Aren't they supposed to be sent to specialists for disposal? To prevent de-gassing of whatever is the refrigerant?

It's for a project, which I'm trying to do cheap incase it's rubbish.

Yes you're right. There's places that take them out (inline with regulations) and sell them as replacements for failed units. I just can't find anywhere doing that near me

I recently scrapped a small fridge after poking a hole through a pipe when de-icing it and releasing all the refrigerant. I thought I would salvage the motor for future possible use but it seems to be inside a black metal box like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Danfoss-FR11G ... 3aaee6d919. Is it worth the effort of cutting it up to get the motor out?

Is it worth the effort of cutting it up to get the motor out?

In a way that is the motor. They sit in a bath of oil that is brought up via a helical screw and back down over the motor for lubrication. Without the oil bath they dont last long at all.
It can be removed but youd then have to find another way to lubricate. Also pretty noisy once the lid is removed.

As far as I remember, if you use it for say something like a home made Air Compressor then you can lose some of the lubricant so you need to allow for this and be able to top it up. Lots of stuff on the net about using these for silent air compressors, just don't blow up the reservoir!

Exactly what im wanting to do. Currently have a silent bambi but its on loan, so intend to make one as my normal compressor is waaay too noisy.

Could you use one from a car A/C system? I guess the rules about degassing apply to these too but if you find a decent scrappy they should have done it before letting you at the car for bits.

I would imagine the output to be much lower and most are belt driven too.
