hi,

just wanted to know peoples thoughts on weather or not you think it is necessary to fit and brace on gates when rebating the frame so T and G sits in or would T and G work as bracing? i would normally always just brace gate anyway but i have fitted a gate/door on my workshop and i ran out of timber to brace it and havent had chance to take it off and fit brace. Although it seems pretty solid and hasn't dropped or sagged yet. The gate/door has been up about 3 weeks and is 4 foot wide.
thanks

Kris

Definitely fit a brace. It might all be tight n square now but will sag in time of not braced.

i used 100mm x 37mm that i had lying round for the frame the T&G is 25mm so the remaining space left for the brace is 12mm would that be thick enough do you think?

thanks for the reply

12mm bracing will be better than none.
Don't forget to bevel off the uppermost edges, to throw rainwater off, if they are either outside or sometimes left open, in the rain. Regards Rodders
