Evening gents.
This is a little thing I've wanted to try for a while since my wooden mallets.
i would say that i was inspired by phillys hammer
http://www.phillyplanes.co.uk/metalhammer.html
lucky for me i remember that i stashed all the bits of metal i found cleaning out my Nans shed (all belonged to my granddads dad) after searching again through the scraps i finally found it. knowing nothing about metal i tried to drill a huge hole straight through it . i know!
after i sought some advice from a friend, I was informed of my stupidness and then once again dug it out. The drilling done, I had to find a file small enough, ahhhhhhhh! lets just say i made do. its not perfect but its ok for mk1, i have enough brass for 2 more, so im going to buy some better files.
the head is a hexagon prism (lucky) and this one is cut to 2 7/16' long by about 5/8' thick. The total length with shaft is 7'
i filed a slight chamfer on the edges to i don't damage or scratch anything.
the design is the shaft is one i just made up its a good feel and thats whats important, its a bit like a shotgun ha. its a good finger groove.
Im not sure of the wood and i just grabbed it from the pile sapele i think. 'quarter sawn'. and the wedge is mahonia (from work)
I've used this to great effect. and im surprised i made it. i normally used a small standard hammer but this looks much better and im to tight to by a fancy brass one so i made one
The multi rasp thing is great, on the other side is two files, made by T.Turner and is superb. to scared to use my handle makers rasp. yet
hope you like it.
many thanks TT
ok back to the box your making (hammer)
