Finger joint advice

Look for help with finger joints please,,

When I close up the joints, the fingers are splitting or breaking off

I have tried varying the thinkness of the joint sections no success

When I made the joints not so tight it leaves gaps and makes the box look untidy

I am currently using combination of bandsaw and chisel to do the joints , I am using mix of cherry and lime timber

They're a pig to do by hand, not impossible just really laborious and tricky. If you can go the jig route, on a router table or table saw, you'll be much quicker and (assuming you're not Alan Peters!) much more accurate.
