Hi Folks
now that I can upload photos, I would like to show my answer to the "dust problem". I rigged up the blower tube to a vac but found that it was hopping about too much so I rigged this flexi pipe to an ash vac and put it through the worktop so that it is not touching the saw anywhere. Under the saw I cut another hole in the table and ran a pipe from the same ash vac pipe to the bottom of the saw, this needs some modification but the top one works a treat. I rigged the ash vac plug to my foot switch so when the saw isn't running it isn't either.
Hope this can help someone out
Regards
Brendan

Neat idea, and another solution to the suck or blow problem. For me it's noise as much as dust control, I can't find a small quiet vac, and there isn't enough dust to run the shop vac, and the dust doesn't float up to the air filter. At the moment its a case of work for a while then run the shop vac like a Hoover on the floor and the bench round the scroll saw, then saw some more!

Hi Brendan
Looks good and you initially mention a 'blower' so is your adaptation still blowing or sucking ?

Hi Scrollerman
I have it sucking up the sawdust, as for the noise I have the ash vac in a box with insulation around it so the only noise is the air being sucked up the tube

Keith.

If you find the noise of a vacuum cleaner a problem, why not go for a dust extractor/collector with an induction motor.

Two advantages an induction motor makes much less noise, plus an induction motor has almost an unlimited life, providing it is not run overloaded, as the shaft bearings are the only wearing part. Unlike a brush motor on a vacuum, that will need replacement brushes on a regular basis, considering the long running time in conjunction with scroll sawing.

Have a look on the Axminster Tool site for a good range of dust extractors/collectors with induction motors.

Disclaimer I have no connection to Axminster Tools, other than a satisfied customer many times over.

Take care.

Chris R.
