Hi all,

Could someone advise me which type of vacuum pump I should buy. DRY or OIL vacuum pump
I spoke to dealer of vacuum pumps and I have been told that oil pump will deliver much higher vacuum however I will have to watch for any water getting into oil as its temperature is going to be high.

Either should work. You don't need high vacuum but make sure that the pump is rated for continuous running. A vacuum switch is useful and can be made if you are so inclined.

Can I use one on this web site? http://www.javac.co.uk/cc-series-vacuum ... 16138.html
I have been offered CC 141. This can pull vacuum of 25 microns, but dry pump can do 150.

Not really as they are only rated for light duty.
Just think about the requirement a bit. You really don't need such extreme vacuums. A few mm of mercury will be more than enough.

Those Jayvac pumps are intended for the refrigeration trade where air and contaminant removal is needed. They are far too powerful for what you need.

With an ultimate vacuum of 25 microns or less, a two stage pump is used for moisture removal, which is critical in hermetic cooling systems.
Subjecting wood (that contains water) to a prolonged high vacuum of that order will affect its dryness.
A vacuum of a couple of mm (2000 microns) is sufficient pressure.

A good oil-free vacuum pump is all that is required for veneer pressing. However, it is important to buy good quality gear, not only in the pump department but in all the ancillary bags and connecting lines.
