Just for general interest, I was in the Natural History Museum just before Christmas and they have a fairly impressive cross section through the trunk of a very large, very old tree on display. Picture not the best quality as just taken on my phone, but you get an idea of the scale from the people standing looking at it.

If i remember correctly its a Sequoiadendron giganteum aka giant redwood. The tallest one was 311 feet tall and over 56 feet in diameter. The oldest known giant sequoia based on ring count is 3,500 years old. Impressive.

Right, lets see. One inch per year drying time...... I could start turning that when I am about 220 ish.
