Morning people,

I'm getting to the final stages of my garden room and so I need to cut some OSB board to length, screw and fit. As yet I haven't got a circular saw and so I was looking for some advice. I already have two Makita 5.0 batteries and so I was looking st the Makita range and found these two:

https://www.powertoolmate.co.uk/Product ... MAKDSS610Z

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Makita-DHS680Z ... op?ie=UTF8

Which of these would be best? If you have any other suggestions then I'm happy to look at that.

Short term I will be making cabinetry, fitted wardrobes and shelving etc.. but I've seen the YouTube video to change a circular saw into a track saw so I'm happy with that. Long term I will probably buy a nice Table Saw so if anyone's has any suggestions for that I would be very grateful too, I guess a budget of around £500-600 is ok for the table saw. Unless not necessary.

Kind regards,

Bram

P.S If you need more information then please let me know.

Thanks! Out of interest does anyone have a preference between the 2 Makita and if so, why?

Cheers

I have no experience of the first saw you linked to, but I do own the brushless DHS680Z in the second link. Used in conjunction with 5ah batteries (both official and eBay knock-offs) the run time is good, there's ample power for ripping softwoods at maximum cutting depth, it's well made and isn't too messy when connected to a vacuum.

Occasionally the guard snags on the workpiece, but I think that's common to most circular saws - at least it is with all of mine.

I have an 18volt DeWalt cordless circular saw, but for sheet goods the mains powered saw always wins out, IMO the battery saws are just not powerful or fast enough, saying that before I got a track saw: http://www.rutlands.co.uk/sp+woodworkin ... nds+xt3516 all of my sheet goods where cut on an Axminster table saw: http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-ho ... w-ax943888 modifications shown here: axminster-ts250-2-modifications-t102284.html I find the table saw easier to use than the track saw as its already set up in the workshop, but the track saw is very good if you have the space to use it, kneeling on the board to cut it or trying to get the board onto trestles is more of a faff than pushing a board through a table saw.

I have tested BOTH of those, which one do I have myself? The Smaller DSS501z , It's much much better than the rest due to its compact size , it's capable of doing 99% of the stuff you would expect to do with the bigger brothers.. Although the brushless one is pretty nice- only due to it being a brushless so it lasts longer and is a bit less noisy, not that the DSS501z is noisy...
one negative tho- not as much choice from blades and they are a bit more expensive.
However for everyday usage It's the best out of all as it's light/nimble/quality and can be used comfortably with 1 hand + It isn't as ''scary'' to use as the other.
