evening gentlemen,
havent been about lately so i thought i would share this.
i got this little bad boy the other week because i was curious about its design and had my suspicions of its origin ect.
these suspicions where magnified by a book i recently received: Antique woodworking tools, their craftsmanship from the earliest times to the twentieth century (David R. Russell) and what a book it is "fantastic".

since ive been the owner i have contacted a MR JONATHAN GREEN-PLUMB, he has published a book on Early European Decorated Tools.

and confirmed what i thought i thought (or was hoping) :)

.this plane is of typical Austrian pattern with the punched decoration on the usual surfaces. the date is tamped onto the side as shown
.its measurements are from sole to sole 5 1/2' and its width is 2 1/2 ish!
.the sole is not flat but slightly convex
.the iron is skewed (single iron)

there are many characteristics i could say but have a look and tell me what you think, i would also be intrested to know if anyone else has a similar plane?

thanks for taking the time to read this and let me know
cheers
TT

With all due respect to your partner Toby , Wrong, Wrong , Wrong. Those little horny beggars are cute as can be. They feature in an engraving from antiquity and one that receives commentary at that. In all seriousness though , just love those planes , particularly the decorated ones . Saw one in the form of a dragon once , delightful whimsy.
