Hi, BB

I would like to have heard apare when I had my ELS57s, but I wouldn't like to live with them, I had enough of valves when I used to fix TVs.

Pete

Andy - Yes! John has come back after a major operation over winter. We thought he'd maybe finally retire but no.... there were the familiar union flags fluttering away when we were there last. (Needless to say that is where I scored my afore mentioned Record router).
Most of the tools I use have come from dear old John's Junk. I'd be lost without him.

Cheers for the update Richard, he is a most pleasant and charming Gent and dread getting to the first steam event we attend (S.E.DAVIS, Astwood Bank) and finding he's not there
He never puts his prices beyond most peoples budget =D>

Does John go to all the steam fairs do you know Richard?

We have a huge one near us in the summer and I have never gone to it....it's a nightmare getting in and out in a car....there seem to be slow moving vehicles all over the roads that weekend for some reason! #-o

John sticks to the Midlands as a rule Jim

You should go Jim to have a gleg at the "tat" stalls and occasionally there are some nice old tool displays   8) 8)

Andy

Yup. Jim I think that John sticks around the Warks, Worc, Glos areas. He has often complained to me about the weight of his van and not wanting to go too far; although these comments might have coincided with trying to sell me something heavy ....

I'll be missing our local first carboot as I won't finish work before it finishes but hopefully I'll be able to make it soon to one. The ones I go to have a few tool traders but generally I find their tools are cheap and they reflect their prices too in quality.

I'm well peeeeed off because it has been as dry as a camel's armpit for about two weeks now and TONIGHT it decides to rain!

Oh well...that will teach me to try to do a bootfair before the REAL season starts at Easter!

Ya never know...it might brighten up tomorrow at 6am!

Jim

Eight hours of rain....only eight hours in one pineapple month and it has to be last night!

I suppose it could have been worse...it could have started at 8am after everyone was there and set up!

Oh well...back to the bullnose..... #-o

Jim

I'm in the same boat! First serious car boot, all ready to go and find a '59 Les Paul with a Dumble combo buried under a pile of Spiers planes and Kenyon saws all in a cardboard box for the price of a handful of magic beans and it rained all night! #-o

I am in two minds whether or not to just nip down there and have a look for the experience, but I got dragged there before and it looked like it was in a ploughed field in the middle of summer, so I'm thinking Glastonbury '07 today!

3) Avoid shaved men with tattoos and Dr. Martin boots...and their girlfriends...whatever the pedigree (even on a lead!)! That sort of bootfair is generally dealers selling rubbish!

10) Stay out of Kent!!!

Jim

What do you mean Jim
No3 I brought this off a shaved man with tattoos and in great working order and for £30

No 10 no way I know the boot fair

Did it come with the crowbar and bolt croppers?

I was actually referring to the buyers! I tripped up more unlicensed dog leads than tree roots at one fair closer to London....all that was there was tat except for one stall - the guy had just arrived really late and opened up his campervan and produced one of these:

I'm only a small guy and I tell you now..when he said a tenner...I made myself as big as the Jolly Green Giant that day! THEN he said...would "you like the other one..." - I tell you...my heart was going that day!

Jim

I can't believe you got those Jim, I not gutted I wasn't there at all

Hi Simon

Wonderful aren't they, not sure whether to sell them on fleaBay or keep them. I think there are one or two electrolytics that could do with replacing. That involves taking the old ones out of their cans and replacing the guts with modern ones....something for the summer months.

Nope Andy...t'was not me...I missed that one as I was out in the workshop hardening my little bullnose iron...

Don't for the life of me know how I missed that little gem...I wonder if it is a Norris? There are so many of that vintage it is difficult to tell from that picture. Bargain for someone though...I would have thought it would have gone higher....

Don't say you got pipped by a quid!? Sorry you didn't get it though mate.

Three old but 'modern' .....(planes)

Slight error in the description there! I would sue!

Jim

Lovely day down here - and I didn't go. Am currently gathering all my hand tools together with a view to culling the herd (kinda like a very specialised car boot sale where everything is free and you choose the stuff you don't want) and so far have just added three pairs of dividers and a 12" square to my users. And that's just from the measuring and marking box. Don't think this is going the way it was supposed to... #-o

I miss living in Cornwall SO much...and now another reason why!

One day....when I retire...I can repatriate the family...the Helford River sounds like just the place...I wonder if I will win the lottery by then!?

Jim
