This one had a small amount of turning and a lot of hand carving, size 12x10x2.5" Finished with many coats of ***. We had a lot of very wet weather and I had a problem with it going off resulting a lot applications of ***. As it is a birthday present the owner requested a high gloss finish, made it a challenge to photograph

That will make a lovely present . Is that a very hard wood like Oak or what would be a like timber .

Unless the Oak was very old and dry I would say its way harder than the average Oak

Can't imagine even attempting to Hand Carve that burl Neil, having had only very little experience of mallee burls I would approach turning with some reservation let alone carving to such an extensive form as that.
