I used to use the spare bedroom as an office and home to my computer and printer but due to an aged parent coming to stay with us for some time I had to find an alternative workstation.
Because the aged parent uses a zimmer and wheelchair trailing cables were a definate no no.
The Hub is positioned near the front door so that was the first problem to solve. We decided to purchase an Ikea shoe storage cabinet because I am a bit of a Phillistine with shoes. I had a habit of kicking off my shoes and changing into slippers leaving shoes about the hall.
This is the Hub and hall telephone station using just over half of the Ikea kit.
All the wires go behind the unit using Ikea cable gromits.
It was decided my new work station would be in the conservatory in which I allready keep my keyboard. This is a professional full size keyboard so does not have built in speakers or amplifiers so not only trailing computer wires forbidden trip hazzard speakers and amps had to be put out of the way.
Ikea do a Billy which I used as my basic design plus I had the motor for the conservatory blinds to hide.
This is my basic thoughts n sketchup
The resultant Billy. Speaker at the top, motor cabinet at the bottom all cables are inside the hollow left hand side panel.
I still have the LH speaker cabinet to build and the computer station has to be built.
A detail I am pleased with is where I keep the transformer and the wires. The books but up to 2 x 1 elm with the transformer at the back, wires passing up the back, through the gromits (pulled out for clarity)
I have the drawers to build but I got far enough to accomodate our guest.
Extra gromits still in packaging. They come complete with a hole saw which as a bonus fits the diameter of my dust extractor pipes. The job I am at present working on.
