I am trying to bleach part of a piece of turned cherry to provide a difference in colour and texture.
I have used household bleach (supermarket equivalent of domestos) and chose the thickened type so that it would nor run off the surface. To date I have put 6 flood coats of bleach on with a nylon scourer, rubbing the bleach well into the grain. This is a period of about 12 hours. There has been a slight colour change towards the pale side, but not the milky white finish I was expecting.
Am I using the wrong product? Am I expecting too much to turn a mid brown timber to milky white with any bleach?
Am I being too impatient   and more coats are needed?
Any advice would be welcome.
