You used to be able to buy gas soldering kits fairly cheaply, but induction welders are quite hard to come by and are generally pretty expensive. From my experience they are a lot more common in the engineering trades than in woodworking shops, so perhaps a scout round the engineering machinery dealers or a hunt in engineering machinery in eBay mifgr turn up a suitable piece of kit. From what I'm told part of the trick to making a good weld is in keeping the tips clean, unpitted and with the correct angles and in learning how to dress the weld properly when you're done - which is why APTCs blades are so poor and Dure_Edge's are so good, I suppose.
