Im on a budget around £300/£350 and limited space.

Dose anyone know if the (woodstar ST12 315MM) are any good for cutting 2/3 inch thick timber/ oak accurate.

Or would the Axminster TS 200 be a better buy.

With a lack of space I'm in two minds to buy a sliding mitre saw with a 3inch deep cut.

It depends on if you would like to rip the timber or crosscut it. A mitre saw will be no good at ripping. I had a charnwood w619 for a couple of years, it's almost the same spec as the axi ts200. It would cut 2" oak, but you would have to feed it very carefully. It was a bit of a balancing act between bogging the motor down or going to slow and burning the timber.

TS200 hands down.

The Woodstar here looks to be a panel saw without mitre slots, possibly suited to site use.

The TS200, although it has its issues, is a induction motored, belt driven saw with a cast iron top more suited for home workshop use.

The new MKII TS200 looks to have a much better fence as well, which should resolve its main issue.

I was surprised to see that the Woodstar also has an induction motor.
I thought all these portable saws were screamers.
