I know next to nowt about wood turning, but I spotted this on eBay during my daily browse about: Holtzapffel Lathe.

If you're rich, it might make one of your poorer friends very happy!

Now there's a lathe worth having. Pardon me while I pop out for a sponge to mop up the drool... You can do some pretty amazing things on one of those, iirc. Unfortunately I only have Holtzapffel's Hand or Simple Turning here, so I can't say what exactly. But pretty amazing, I'm sure. But who cares? It's perishing bootiful. :D

All I need now is a rich friend... :-k

Cheers, Alf

Looks a wonderful bit of kit, not sure about keeping it 'in the sitting room'

If you find a whole room full could I have one too? Pretty please?

I remember reading an article (might have been a series) in The Woodworker back in the early 1970s by a bloke who was a member of The Society of Ornamental Turners (or some such name). It was all about Holtzapffel lathes and how versatile they were - not a bit like your ordinary woodworking lathe. As Alf said, the stuff they can produce is pretty amazing
