Thanks for quick response.

Hi, great thread. I have just painted my mdf shelves (after sealing edges and undercoating and sanding) with an oil based eggshell paint, can i now paint with clear varnish over the top or will the varnish react with the oil based eggshell?

Many thanks, Jo

I am a joiner, but mostly use MDF for most furniture these days.

I have used various different products to get over the fury edge of cut MDF, The best I found is as correctly stated in the forum is PVA painted on edge, and then fine sanded, (180 grit), once you have the several coats of undercoat and paint, they will come out beautiful.
