hi all
im after advice on which chuck to buy. i've been looking at the Axminster K10 clubman package which is £129.95. is this a good general purpose chuck? it needs to fit the 3/4 x 16 tpi spindle. any advice is much appreciated . :D
many thanks

I would say the K10 is a reasonable match to your lathe, I have the Goliath 125mm version of the pattern and have no regrets on its purchase.
It's not a Rolls Royce of chucks but it does the job, and of course you would be buying into a great set of accessory jaws that will be compatible with all Axminster chucks.
Only downside is that it won't be upgradeable to a different thread if you change your lathe.

I'm new at this stuff, but have done quite a lot of reading of reviews etc, and everything I've seen about the K10 has been favourable or excellent. I'd have gotten one myself but I swung a very nice deal on getting the new Evolution one with my new lathe at a discount - it's pretty fantastic too - as far as I can tell in my limited knowledge!

As Chas points out, the K10 is compatible with all the Axminster jaw sets, and there's a lot to choose from there. I believe the Evolution is too, at least I was told such when I bought it, so I certainly hope so...

One thing I can say for sure about the Axminster chucks, and that is that the standard of machining and manufacture, to my novice eye, is very impressive. It's a very nicely made bit of kit.

I too purchased the clubman k10 set with my new lathe in January and found it to be an ideal starter package. I now have seven different jaw sets and two of the k10's

As Chas says, maybe not the Rolls Royce of chucks like the Evolution, but certainly not the Lada either. Well machined, accurate and true, I have never had a problem if I have used the appropriate jaws for the job in hand. I keep O'donnels permanently in one and use the other for all the other jaw sets.
