I haven’t been on a rusty tool buying expedition for a while but last Saturday I set forth and spent £20 on the following:
- Mortice chisel, ¼”, W. Marples & Sons, shamrock brand, cast steel, beech handle.
- Paring chisel, ¼”, I & H Sorby, “golden fleece” brand, box(?) handle – badly scorched in places.
- Parting tool, W. Marples & Sons, shamrock brand, cast steel, ash handle, good condition.
- Saw set, W. Marples & Sons, shamrock brand.
- Dividers, 6”, no maker’s mark but solidly made and look old.
- Small circlip pliers, parallel action, Barnards, “happy dog” brand, Schollhorn Co., Newhaven, Conn., PAT May 6 1890, Apr 28 1907, Jun 17 1918. A very good tool, I think.
- Small adjustable bevel, well made but no maker’s mark.
- Toolmaker’s clamp, no maker’s mark.
- Small lathe drive dog, no maker’s mark.
- V-block, Eclipse No. 230.
- Small V-block, no maker’s mark.
- Wad punch, ¼”, no maker’s mark (I tried it on leather and it worked well).

I was intrigued by the saw set and I have not seen one like it before. It cleaned up well and now I just need to learn to use it….. :)

Nice haul and excellent value!
I think the saw set may be a variant on Morrill's patent, which was a long lived successful design.
