Still kicking about but haven't posted any turnings in a while, so thought I'd throw a few up, going to be doing quite a few more pot pourri bowls, having problems with shrinkage and lids not fitting even when using 3 yr+ seasoned , but make sure I now leave them so I can re-turn the lid hole if required, I do turn them quite tight fit wise, and I know some people prefer to have them sitting on top and not rebated, but I like the look, anyone any tips re this ? I've a spalted beech pot pourri bowl heading for Gibratar and the difference in humidity etc may kill it
This was the first of the Blanks I got in the sack from Stafford, not sure what the wood is , had a few hairline cracks which seem to have settled, finished with Danish Oil.
This is the second, again not sure what it is, but had a bit of worm sign which I couldn't turn out, but nothing terminal, quite like these discus shapes, the mother of pearl is a bit of left over guitar purfling that I had 6mm set in and superglued, finishing oil.
Cherry Bowl, Locally felled, left it chunky and turned it with the knot it the rim, finishing oil
Finally a bit of firewood I put down over 2 years ago from an Ash felled out the back, before I found my love of the lathe, you wouldn't believe the amount of grief the missus gives me when she brings in a load of firewood for the stove and half of it disappears before she comes back in with the coal lol.
That's the longest post ive put up in a while, do need to get a foam pad for sanding the inside of the bowls, something I need to work on, its on my list lol
Any C&C welcomed and any info on getting a good finish with those pewter lids would be welcome !!
