Hi All,

I am looking for a 6 inch 370 watt bench grinder that i can use with the adaptors and mops to polish pewter castings. Looked at some so called "Heavy Duty" ones but they can only run for ten minutes then switch off for fifteen, any ideas, anyone

Hi

Ten minutes at a polishing station is quite a stint - are you sure you need anything more?

Regards Mick

If the badge on a tool reads "heavy duty" it usuallay means that the badge itself is heavy duty while the tool isn't. The chineese have a bad habit of branding low end hobbyist grade junk as "industrial" or "heavy duty".

I have a dedicated polishing grinder that I am altering into a grinder for spindle moulder tooling. It is rated as 750 watts running on single phase. Polishing is wery had work for a grinder so I think you should look for a more powerful grinder. Preferably three phase if you have access to three phase power (I doubt you have).

370 watts single phase does not seem to be enough power. I have a 370W Koneteollisuus three phase grinder and a 450W Galvanotechnik (East German) single phase. The nominally smaller three phase grinder is in fact significantly more powerful. Both stall pretty easily so I would't use either of them for polishing.

Mick,

Not sure how long as they are quite small pewter toy car castings .

Hi,

Its not so much the power as they are quite small parts more the problem of probably overheating a machine if its left on for more than ten minutes which does'nt seem that long too me.

Hi

It sounds like you will not be putting the machine under any appreciable load, (small items in soft metal). I'd be tempted to go for it - does it come with any form of guarantee?

Regards Mick

I would think if they were rated for intermittent use it would specify that on the plate, so if you bought a cheap one, burnt it out and returned it, the seller couldn't then say it wasn't meant to be left running for so long.

Just the usual 12 month one but strangely there are several on both Amazon and Ebay that look identical but under different names.
