    62 Hot dog handle

Just a word of caution, I added a cigar shaped grip to my LN9 fashioned from goncalo alves a few yrs ago, left it on a few months and when removed revealed some florid rust pitting. Needless to say it is now removed after use. Jeremy

Saw Sharpening - A newbies experience

You have not shown the filed faces in this photo but what strikes me is the large amount of set this means a lot of wood is being ripped hence a slower cut. Measure it by planing a veneer to fit the kerf and see how wide it is compared to the blade thickness. Jeremy

    Tight Dovetails

If they are all tight you could consider planing the inside surface of the pin board this will make all the wedges smaller. It may or may not be ok to do this depending on what you are making but this is far easier than attending to each individual pin. Jeremy

    Tools for Dovetails

Replying to Alex8-en, if your pins are consistent but too tight then you need to move the tail board away from the pin board a fraction when marking out. ie more light peaking through the back edge. If it doesnt matter what the final width of the pin board is plane a few shavings off the inside...

    Rycotewood

Has anyone got a rip saw that needs sharpening? I was wondering about doing a demo on Sat but all my saws are sharp!! No gaurantee re the results as I dont know if the light will be amenable to good seeing! But it would be good to take some of the mystery out of this really straightforward...

The Wennzloff Blog and Shaping Saw Handles

Brian, When are you planning to cut the slot for the saw blade? I'm not too experienced at this-Ive made one to date but I think it would be wise to do this before you loose flat reference surfaces. Jeremy

    New workshop design

Mike My post above was just a gentle tease. I know I have more tools than I really need and in many ways envy your self discipline there but I have enjoyed exploring the merits of different tools eg LN 51/2 vs my grandfathers Norris vs HNT smoother and in the process have come to a greater...

    Fast dovetails

I briefly handled the RC dovetail saw at Westonbirt last year. I liked it a lot and would be very happy with one. It is different to Adria/LN/Veritas the blade is a little longer and the brass back massive. The fine teeth at the toe did make starting easy with a nice length behind for...

    Roof insulation

This cold weather has just made it too cold in my unheated garage to work, yes its been cold even in Swanage! So it has concentrated my mind on sorting out some insulation for the roof. I have a pitched roof with breathable membrane above the rafters which are 130mm deep. Is it best to insulate...

    2009 Handtool Secret Santa

Sorry for not posting pictures before but here hopefully are pics of my gift. I've had a quick play and it seems to work a treat. Although I usually dimension off a piece the scale will undoubtedly prove useful. The setting is simple and the scored line nice and crisp. A big thanks to my SS. :D...

    Official Secret Santa Picture Thread

A big thank you for the veritas marking gauge from my secret santa who choose to remain anonymous. I've not had a play yet but the microadjust looks very useful for scribing an exact dimension. What a fantastic day. Jeremy
