Horse Chestnut Hollow Form With Rosewood Collar

Hello all, this is the first thing I have turned for a long time, I've been busy building an extension on our new house since early in the year and with other work and stuff, haven't had a great deal of workshop time. My poor old Maxi2 has rust on it!!! After a bit of de-rusting I had a little...

Anyone else fly radio controlled quadcopters/multirotors?

I got a quadcopter on a whim about 18 months ago after a mate showed me a video of one on youtube, I soon got tired of buying replacement parts and took to building my own from 3mm ply and 12mm pse pine. Then more recently I discovered the world of mini racing quads, made from carbon fibre...

    Router table?

I am a woodturner, but am being slowly seduced by the desire to make some flat stuff (watched too many episodes of NYW with Norm making cool stuff), I'm putting some (mostly rubbish) kit together and want to get/make a router table, nothing too serious (money wise) but functional...

    Clarke planer thicknesser.

I have been gifted a clarke 10" planer thicknesser, I've never used one before (I'm a woodturner and my flatwork is, shall we say limited, lol), I set it all up with the rollers levelled with the bed and proceeded to feed in my boards, it works OK and gives a flat, reasonably smooth surface but...

    'Nut' C&C are welcomed.

Here is the second piece I've made in this 'welded' style. This one is a fair bit smaller than the first and the hollow form measures 3 1/2" tall. The He hollow form and nut are sycamore and the threaded bar is Mahogany. C&C are welcomed.

    Small Elm Bowls. C&C welcomed.

I have turned a batch of small bowls today for a gallery that sells my work, I thought these two Elm ones had nice grain and a lovely warmth to their colour. They are about 5 inches wide and just have a coat of oil as a finish. C&C welcomed.

    'Junk Pile'

This is the first piece out of my new workshop. It's 17" tall. I thought I would make it out of Elm as the open grained nature of it would show through as a clue for the observer as to its true wooden nature. C&C welcomed.

    Pierced, Textured and Coloured Bowl.

This is the first bit of turning I have been able to do since the end of last August as I have been busy renovating our new home, moving and 'most' importantly trying to build my new workshop! The workshops not finished yet so I had to turn this with my lathe in my garden shed, not bolted down...

    Blue Bottle.

I've been playing with this tear drop shape for a bit and have made a few pieces based upon it (you can see the others on my blog if you like) and rather than carve and texture this one I decided to use a colouring technique I have been fiddling with to give a marble/stone look. It is 5 1/2"...

    Horse Chestnut Burr Form

About 18 months ago a nice man called Paul from just up the road said to me "I have had a tree come down in my garden, would you like some?" . Obviously I said Yes please! I went round to find a large Horse Chestnut had come down and smashed down Paul's 7 foot high brick and flint wall! I had a...

    Dark Urn.

Here is another teardrop shaped coloured urn in what seems to be developing into a series. This one is Sycamore, 5 1/2" tall, turned, hollowed, shotblasted, textured and coloured. I have added a little texture to the smooth areas to make them look like cast metal. I have made a short timelapse...

    Red Urn

I haven't had a chance to do any turning since April! I finally got a chance Wednesday morning and made this little Urn from Sycamore(well the ashes started Wednesday so an urn seemed in keeping). It has been turned, hollowed, sand blasted and coloured with acrylics. It is 7" tall. Comments...

    Been a long time.....

Hello everyone, I haven't posted anything here for a long time and thought it about time I did :) So here are a few things I've made over the last few weeks. This is the latest piece I have made and is coincidently in keeping with your 'outer space' competition for this month. Its called 'Dark...

    Flotsam

Elm hollow form, heavily textured to to look like it has been afloat for a very long time, perhaps cast upon the sea by some ancient hand.......(don't worry I've not been drinking.. ..) The large(ish) size plinth for the piece is to represent the ocean, its size is to allow the form to...

    Copper Leaf Form

This lidded form is made from Elm, it stands 6" tall without the final. The coloured area has been airbrushed to give a 'mottled' appearance and the base and lid are covered in copper leaf which has been 'distressed'. The finial is Indian Rosewood. More info on this on my blog if anyone's...

    Magma Bubble

Firstly 'Happy New Year' all 8) I hope the title of this is pretty self explanatory with regards to design but to be a bit more specific this is inspired by the way underwater erupting lava looks, the way it quickly cools and goes dark then suddenly cracks open as more lava breaks the cooled...

    Sculpture- ' Midnights Little Flower'

This is the first 'proper' piece of work I've managed to produce in over a month!! This is the fourth piece in my 'Dark' series. I hope the title is pretty explanatory of the design. The colouring of silver, purple and black are the cool night time colours of moonlight. It stands about 10"...

    'The Eternal Prisoner'-sculpture

A sculptural piece with a pyro decorated sphere inside a pierced skeleton sphere through which it will not fit! The ring is 11" wide and 2" thick, its been heavily carved, ebonised and silver added to the high spots. I won't waffle on about the meaning of it here but a detailed explaination of...
