    wet wood bowls

OK I have turned a fair amount of green blanks. I rough them out with a wall thickness of about 10% of the dia ie 10" bowl 1" wall thickness. This allows for warpage, ovality etc and gives you some room to move when finishing time comes. Depending on how stable the blanks is, I generally then...

Woodfast C1000 Lathe Info and photos ( SOLD )

Quality is quality and costs , but with cheaper MODERN machines , most are designed by accountants , I think the saying goes something like this " Built to a price , not a standard " unless we are Talking VB36, Vicmarc and the other top makes like Woodfast , I have to agree with Blister...

    SuperNova 2 Chuck for sale

Hmm, How odd, I have 5 SN2 chucks. Three are the old 120mm dia and two 100mm newer variety. The 120mm type have the 33x3.5pitch screw cut directly into the chuck yet I have inserts that fit each one so I can move the chucks back and forth between my Woodfast and two other purpose built...

    Can you ID this lathe?

What ever name it has on it. It is a Chinese standard clone available all round the turning world under many different names. Available here in Australia under at least 1/2 dozen different names Quite well designed but usually poorly executed when it comes to manufacture. However having said...

    washing up liquid

I have used the 50/50 soap&water, water, and DNA. What you will find is that there no one solution to apply to every timber type. Ron Kent in Hawaii used it exclusively on Norfolk Pine with great success. My experience to date suggests that with some hard wood it simply does not work well or at all.

    Burr elm hollow form

For me the neck draws the eye down to the main body of the vessel and the burl itself so its fine The only suggestion I can make possibly, is to the shape immediately below the neck with a little more angle to match the neck base to maintain the flow down the vessel

    Purple Gidgee

    The bowl that bit back

I had a similar problem, but never got caught. I had just about finished turning a 12" or so bowl to fairly thin around 5mm or so. Step back to locate a finer grade of paper and the whole bowl flew apart. Showering the workshop with what could be best described as shrapnel it went every where...

    Nova 1624-44 A Big Disapointment

Teknatool lathes and equipement. Since they moved to China there have been problems with quality. Although this is the first time I have heard it about lathes, usually its chucks and accessories. Its a lemon and not fit for the purpose it was intended. tell em to pick it up. Its a shame as...

    Cracking Burl

Hmm, what a pain, been there and done a few times. What I do now is to fill the spigot with super glue [ CA] use the thinest stuff you can find, pour it in and give plenty of time to set. So far this has worked well for me and prevented a few heart stopping moments

    eculiptus??

Seeing that there are some many varieties and they don't all have the same characteristics your going to have to play it by ear on this one. If turning it green leave plenty for warping. Some will warp a great deal, other way less.I have a 6" bowl move 2" out of round and look more like a...

    EBAY does it work ?

Yes Ebay works, But you have to offer what the people want. Its no good posting an item for sale that nobody wants or when a 1000 are already offering the same at a low price. Do your due diligence and see wants popular and what it sells for and remember there are fees to take into account...
