What would you call this, and how do I do it?

I'm not sure what you'd call what I want to do. I'd like to remove the red section in the crude diagram below, using handtools only: I should add that the section to be removed is ~ 1 cm deep, 60cm long and 10cm wide. So a fair amount of material to remove. Cheers!

    Door seal required

Folks, I need about 6m of this type of door seal, in white. I can only find it online in 50m lengths! Does anyone know of a supplier who sells it by the metre, or in smaller quantities. Or does anyone have a reel that they would sell me 6m of? Cheers!

    Design me a workshop roof

I'm out of my depth here people, and I know there's the knowledge here to put me straight :) Over winter I've been relegated to the house because my workshop is uninsulated, and basically uninsulatable. It's a concrete prefab garage, with a low mono pitch roof (front to back) made from...

    Scrubs up nicely

Quick question: when using a scrub plane (scrubbing?), is it normal practice to stop short of the far edge to avoid tearing the edge, or should I be supporting that edge with some clamped scrap and scrub right on through. Cheers chaps.

    Eyballing

The final arbiter of true, square and flat are the measuring tools we use - but I'm willing to bet there are a fair few people on here who can look at a piece of wood an tell you whether it's square or not. So how good are you at eyeballing measurements and angles? Have a go...

How to go from a cutlist to boards?

I'm sure this has been covered on here before, but I can't find the magic combination of words to use with the search - so please point me at previous threads if you know of any... What process do people follow to go from a cut list to a shopping list? I'm sure the nice chap at the wood yard...

    Bad technique or bad steel?

I've been preparing the stock for my new/reclaimed workbench (rebuilding an abused old school workbench from Education for All in Corby). So I've been alternating between the #6 and the #7, but the blade in the #7 dulls extremely quickly. I'm sharpening the two blades in the same way (I...

    Saw doctor required

I've been given a nice S&J tenon by a friend, my first resharpenable saw. Can anyone recommend a saw doctor who will sort it out for me - ideally in Leicestershire or nearby. Thanks.

    Supporting shelves in a cabinet

So I've charged ahead and built myself into a corner, so to speak :) I've constructed the cupboards below from 18mm MR MDF, supported by 40mm framing. I wasn't particularly confident about building the face frame and then offering it up, so I built it as I went along, screwing it to the framing...

Where to buy a hand bench grinder?

Does anyone know of anywhere selling new or secondhand hand powered bench grinders? They seem to come up on THAT auction site, but only usually from the USA, and I'd rather not pay postage on a wheel shaped lump of rock and metal! Cheers.

    Workshop wood storage racking

I've got piles of wood all over my workshop, so I thought it was time to do something about it, so I've designed this racking to tidy it all up. The space at the back is large enough to take a whole sheet of 8'x4'. The framing is 45mm x 45mm square planed, the brackets are 12mm ply and are...

    Garage to Workshop (WiP)

I've started the process of converting the garage into a workshop, It's a 50's concrete prefab job. You join me a little way in to the project as I haven't been taking photos up to now  . Last autumn I replaced the corrugated concrete asbestos sheets with corrugated bitumen sheets, and...
