    Parkside/Lidl plunge saw guide rails

Just a note to be aware that if you buy an extra set of guide rails for the Parkside/Lidl plunge saw they won't come with an extra joiner. The parts are spares, not an extension set, so it comes with just one joiner for the two rails. If you want to join them to the other supplied rails you'll...

    Poor quality from ManoMano

I recently ordered a "Precision Mortising Jig and 2 in 1 Loose Tenon Woodworking Punch Locator" from ManoMano.com There are several 'dealers' selling this product on the site at various similar prices. It appears from the photos on the site to be a reasonable copy of the Woodpecker 'Morty', an...

    Nova 3000 extension bed wanted

I've recently bought a secondhand Nova 3000, the original one NOT the DVR version. One issue with it is that it doesn't have a great distance between centres. Does anyone have a spare extension bed they no longer need and would be willing to sell ? I know that with some effort the newer DVR...

    British manufactured woodworking tools

Following on from a comment in a thread about the implications of Brexit maybe it would be useful to list who actually manufactures woodworking kit in the UK now. What can you add to this list ? Clifton & Thomas Flinn http://www.flinn-garlick-saws.co.uk/ Planes, hand saws Sorby...

Free books with the woodworking magazines this month.

A lot of the UK woodworking magazines are being packed with free books this month. I found the following at a local W H Smiths. Seems a good deal for some useful or interesting books still on sale elsewhere at full price. Wood Carving Magazine; Essential woodcarving techniques by Dick Onians...

    Yandles

I was in Yandles earlier this week and heard some sad news. Apparently the owner has had a stroke and things haven't been going as profitably as they would like. The gallery has closed and it looks like the craft shop and cafe are making a loss, so will be closed later this year too. The wood...

    Buffing oil finished work

I've used a system of buffing wheels for my 'hard' finished work with good success. I'm now trying some hard wax oil finishes, would it be best to use different buffing wheels on the oil finish to prevent contamination back to the hard finishes ?

Axminster APF 10 Evolution Powered Respirator

Axminster APF 10 Evolution Powered Respirator I bought one of these at the start of the year and thought people might like to know a little more about it. The pictures, details and prices are all at: http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-ap ... tor-101809 I didn't want anything with leads or...

Missing a new Axminster catalogue ? worry no more.....

For turners that might miss the entertainment of browsing a new Axminster catalogue this year (there won't be any more), have a look at Style and Bates latest catalogue; http://www.stilesandbates.co.uk/ It's really well produced with more to read that just boring tool descriptions, it's even...

Axminster daily deals, gone in seconds

Just looked at today's Christmas 'daily deal', a workbench, but it's shown as sold out within 25seconds of being offered! http://www.axminster.co.uk/daily-deals/ I wonder how many of those they actually had ?

    Axminster chuck jaws 20% off

In case you're not on Axminster's mailing list. They're currently offering 20% off their own chuck jaws until the end of the month. In my experience the Axi jaws are very well made, cheaper than some alternatives plus other chucks like the Versachuck can accept their jaws too.

    Unusual workholding method ?

Reading the August edition of Woodturning there's an article by Neil Scobie on making a lidded box. The first instruction is; “open the jaws of your scroll chuck a little before placing the blank against the jaws with tailstock centre pressing the centre” I've never come across this work...

Product recall - Chestnut cellulose sanding sealer spray

http://www.yandles.co.uk/article/52-pro ... ml-aerosol Chestnut cellulose sanding sealer 400ml aerosol recall. I've not seen this mentioned elsewhere, but I think Yandles should be a trustworthy source. Disappointing, if correct, that Chestnut have no mention of this problem on their own...

Has anyone here actually bought a Dick woodworking plane from Dictum ? eg https://www.dictum.com/en/tools/woodwor ... =szmoX6-D_ With the only other alternative low angle jacks available in the UK are either poor quality like the Stanley or expensive like the Lie Nielsen & Veritas. With the...

    Daft ebay bidding

One of the most ludicrous examples of over bidding I've seen for a long time. I'd thought woodturners were generally smarter than that. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Axminster-woo ... true&rt=nc So that's some daft person bidding £44 for something that's available from Axminster brand new for...

Moss and Co moving (London timber merchant)

Someone on this forum mentioned Moss and co as a good London timber merchant last year, and there's precious few merchants that sell good hardwood in 'hobby' quantities within the M25. http://www.mosstimber.co.uk/ I finally got the chance to visit them in Hammersmith last week and found a decent...
