Router tip for shelf support pins

FWIW, apparently, strictly speaking, the two words have specific meanings. Regards

    european vs american oak

Not so fast. I think my remarks describe the difference between American red oak - hollow straws and American white oak - filled straws. Regards

    european vs american oak

I thought I read somewhere that European oak can be visualised as a bundle of straws, so will rapidly draw up water. In the case of American oak the "straws" are full wax/resin/???? and so are more resistant to water. As a consequence, American oak is a better choice for outside furniture...

Workbench tooltray necessity aka structual solution

My workbench an "Emir" cabinetmakers with a tool tray, is set against the wall in my very small basement workshop. It also has a slot at the back along its length, I believe primarily for chisels. I tend to use neither. Since I'm a pretty messy worker I screwed a piece of MDF (v.approx...

    Joinery Glues

I thought there were two part superglues especially for mitres. Axminster sell one called MitreBond. I've used it for small non-mitre jobs - seemed to work, but Axminster ought to be able to tell you if it's the real deal. Regards

    Kitchen worktops which is best

The advantage of Corian is that it can be supplied with sinks and tops moulded as if one piece, including lips and upstands - actually glued, but you'd never know. We saw this as outweighing any problems with hot pans - not that we've had any - but just in case, the installer routed channels to...

    Festool C12

Dithering on a special offer of a C12 with 1.3 Nicads - apparently the pros want more capacity. One reason is I find it a bit odd to use my middle finger as a trigger finger - the other is the dosh! FWIW I believe that Festool are averse to Li-ion batteries, (and if you had to judge from the...

    Shooting board

Pete, As regards your original post - should it read "note {sic} the small vertical piece...." or is indeed that made from a different material? Regards

    Large diameter dowelling

What about wooden curtain rod? Don't know about price, but have bought them while in France (cheap as chips IIRC) instead of the same sized dowel, for a garden project. Regards

The request form, in its clunkiness, does not augur well.

UK wood glue for 18mm Ply

Can you say why you decided to dowel the top and bottom to the inside of the sides, rather than having the sides butting on to the top and bottom. What loads are these racks likely to take? If hefty, I would wonder about dowels in ply - even good ply. Had you considered glue and pocket holes...

    WHICH CIRCULAR SAW?????

Some very good saws are quite noisy - I think to do with electronic management of load - eg Festool.

    Changes at B&Q ???

The nearest B&Q warehouse is currently restocking - though as far as power tools go it seems more of the same, apart from an additional aisle of glossier tools. What interested me more was that the restocking was being done by people whose livery described them as partners of B&Q. It might be a...

Trimming Festool rail splinter guard strip

If the saw is really snug on the raised profile of the guiderail, then perhaps that profile is not parallel to the edge of the guide rail?Incidentally, by really snug I mean that the cams underneath the saw baseplate are tightened so that there is some grab, but by using a dry lubricant on the...

    Imminent Purchase - TS55

I added a second 1400 rail to my original. I strongly now wish that I had bought a 1900. If you're cutting a 1220 sheet and want to start without plunging as well as having support at the end of the cut you need the 1900. The MFT is to be thoroughly recommended, as is a good vac. Regards
