Well I got started on two sets of gates today. it was a late start as I had to visit a customer first and collect the wood. Anyway I got all of the parts cut out and M&T'd.

I then managed to get the two small gates in a dry fit.

I did finish a bit late tonight at 7.30pm, wasn't too bothered as the roads were very congested with all the snow that had fallen here. By the time I went home I had missed all the traffic.

What's the timber? I'd like to have a bash at a gate this year but will be weighing price against durability as I'm a skinflint.

it's Scandinavian pine Mike. I always give them a good coating of clear preservative while assembling them which seems to help. I got on well today and have almost finished both sets.

I tell my customers to give them a coat of preservative each year to help them being softwood. Although one of my customers never did coat them and they lasted 10 years!
