Can I get a ready made 4" outlet cyclone anywhere? I've ordered a cheap 2" outlet one from ebay for my vac but this one is for the chip extractor.

I had planned on building a thien baffle/top hat but the costs mount up for parts if you don't have them already and the 35cm diameter barrel I have doesn't seem wide enough for 2x 4" outlets. The 2 would be pretty much touching.

Only other option is get another larger container and carry on with the thien plan.

Cheers!
Carl.

Cheers Naz but I'm looking for ready made as they look stronger and simpler (the same as the 50mm outlet dust commander ebay type only bigger ports). Cyclonecentral are out of stock anyway.

I've now found one with a 6" and 5" port but it's on aliexpress which says 60 days delivery.

Is it working well Terry? I could order from China and wait. Or give up and build as thien.

Thanks all. I think I'm going to get a large cyclone, even if it is more expensive and will take weeks to get here. I'm tempted to make a thien top hat and have done a lot of research on them, but I've decided the cyclone will be easier to stick on a different container if I decide I want something bigger or whatever.

I managed to find one I can get delivered from France. I also left messages with a couple of ebayers who used to sell them but don't anymore. If anyone is interested let me know and I'll tell you if they respond and have any stock.

You may find the delivery charges are extortionate from France.

It was 12.40 euro economic and 21.50 expedited. Ok I think for something that size. Also didn't work out so much more than the chinese version to be worth waiting up to 60 days.

What total price then?

About £147 + £10 or £18 delivery. Not cheap but, when available in the uk, people have been buying them for £150 on ebay and saying it was worth it. A lot more than how much I imagine your nice thien build cost!

I only paid £14 for my regular sized cyclone for my vac..

I think a diy thien wouldve cost me minimum £30, probably nearer £60 by the time I bought all the bits inc. new container. The cyclone will work on my existing 50 litre drum but also easily go on something bigger if/when I get it.

I've been lurking around poss cyclone build or buy and I am still at a loss as to why they are so expensive - Are they truly complicated or have to be pinpoint accurate size and shape, or am I missing something else?

(Sorry if this is an OP hijack!!)

TIA

Greg

Yeah, I have no idea why the larger cyclones are so expensive here - there's got to be a gap in the market for them, and cyclone Central aren't filling it.

Keep us posted how your cyclone turns out! :)

They are about the same in the states. https://www.amazon.com/ONEIDA-SYSTEMS-Deputy-Molded-Cyclone/dp/B00BEXBWS6

I guess it's simply what they know they can get for a specialist bit of plastic :|

The regular vac size ones are about £40-50. Until people started doing cheap rip offs for a lot less.

It feels like a lot of money for my chip extractor and cyclones (and nothing like as much fun as buying tools) but I suppose it's something well worth doing.

Not a 100mm fitting, but not generally known is that Numatic make a cyclone fitting for the 365mm series of vacuum's.

The molds probably aren't cheap to do, and they won't be selling many of them...at a guess.

Sorry for delay replying. Yes, judging by the amount of dust and chips I just had to empty from the blue bin below it! Hooked up to a 3HP SIP HVLP ducted around my workshop.

However, the one issue I had was that the inlet and outlet do not easily fit any known pipe size I could find. Fortunately a very kind chap turned a bespoke adaptor for the connection to the extractor.

Terry.
