Hi all,

Still fairly new to all this wood malarky but have been busy constructing a bench to work on and that takes my table saw, also will eventually accommodate my built in router plate when it arrives!

Totally stole the idea off the web:

As it seemed to do what I needed! I've altered it a bit though adding a 60mm overhang to take clamps for holding stuff down , and still need to add vice and boxes for dust extraction.

Pretty pleased with the progress so far!

Not sure if anyone has had a look at the video the original builder put up the web, but he used 100x50 pse so all of the sketch up drawings were easy to manage and mark up timbers for him ! Only thing avail to me locally was 95x47 pse so had to re jig all of his sketch up drawing measurements to suit the timber available! Made the whole thing a bit of an buttocks re marking out but made me more methodical whilst making it.

The timber is obv softwood which was all funds would allow so to get nice clean cuts with very minimal tear out used a sharp knife to score all of the cut lines .

Bit of an update, finally managed to get out in the W/Shop for a few hours today and mark out and get the Router plate in the bench top ( I have been dreading doing this and put it off for weeks ) as did not want to get it wrong and wazz the bench top up !

The 'New to Me' little plane now all working was a real bonus as I was about 1mm too high with my cut out :-(

I hope it didn't take as long as mine took !!! Tomorrow job is 'T' Tracks !

You're on the same schedule as me! I'm planning to do the tracks today. It wasn't a short job because I was quite nervous about doing it wrong even though I was using a template. You took a lot more effort with the cutting of the inner section, mine's a right hack job but it's hidden anyway

In all honesty the inner section was hacked out with a jigsaw very badly then tidied up afterwards as it looked a right mess ( I really hate jigsaw find then extremely inaccurate and wonky on thick stuff )

I didnt have a template had to cobble together some timbers and double sided tape and extra clamps should it all go titsup!

So then, today's job was indeed 'T' track, nervous as hell again as not wanting to spoil the top, ( I even sharpened a couple of chisels as a delay tactic) had seen lots of videos where folk rounded the ends of the track off but chose to cut them square and chisel the corners out to suit.
Pleased with the outcome

Depends on your budget and whether making your own is a pleasure or a chore. I bought mine as I didn't think it was something I'd enjoy making that much, but hats off to those that have.
