To any of you full size 'Rat owners out there I have posted my new method of making through dovetails on http://www.aldel.co.uk/Dovetails.htm. This method avoids all the messing about with scales and test sticks etc.
Ooo, nice one, Alan. =D> I must admit I've had better luck using that method than the whole test stick hoo-hah. I can also almost kid myself it's more like doing it by hand... I really like the method for holding the work for marking; brilliant. Why didn't I think of that? #-o (Told you I always end up saying that). I can see me using that for hand cut DTs too; beats mitre clamps and stuff.
The good thing about the test stick method, is that once you achieve the settings for a good fit, these settings remain the same for the same combination of straight bit and dovetail bit.
So I always work with the same bits and I always use the same settings, works a treat.
I learned this on my day course with Mike Humphreys.
