Hi,

I bought an old lamp which had wooden arms that seemed to be untreated. I think the arms are beech but not certain. After a light sanding, I tried applying Teak Oil to the arms (which it said could be used on various hardwoods).

I've noticed quite a few white marks on the wood after applying. What have I done wrong? Was Teak Oil best kept for Teak only? It's Liberon for information.

As you can probably tell, I'm a complete amateur so any advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

Suspect the wood was treated with sanding sealer and the subsequent application of oil is showing uneven penetration where this is still viable.

Yes, 180 grit (so the oil does not clog too much) then 220-240 grit with the grain would be my first try.

Or if you have it Nyweb, or Abranet because it does not clog so easily

Make sure you are giving it a good clean after sanding as sometimes the dust can get clogged in the grin/small indentations and change colour when a finish is applied. This can also happen with some fillers
