WHICH BANDSAW

Hi,
I wonder if anyone has had any experience with any of these bandsaws

I am upgrading from a record bs350 as the belt is slipping constantly and they have been unable to repair it. so Record are suggesting the startrite as i am presuming they make this machine, but before i spend all this money I would value your opinions please.

I think you should try harder to get what is a current saw repaired they are quite a simple machine so it can not be that difficult . Always start with a new blade and go through the set up so you are minimising the load then determine what causes the slipping and get it fixed.
I assume you are useing the correct blade for deep resawing.

i think the axminster bs is same as the top and bottom links just cheaper, the startrite has a extra 100mm hight in the guides but its twice the price of axminster.

depending on what you want to use it for? do you need to cut bigger than 12" if not i would be considering the axminster with lots of cash left, philly has reviewd this in his blog

I've got the Startrite 401S, which is the same but with ceramic guides. It's a delight to use, the build quality is superb - it's a proper italian-built light industrial saw. I snagged mine nearly new on ebay, but with Startrite's hefty RRPs, you would be better off looking for the equivalent ACM/Meber/Agazzani etc models without paying the extra for the 'Startrite' branding.

Best way to test how solid a bandsaw is :-

Stand to the left of the saw facing the blade

put your left hand on the " backbone " spine " upright , what ever its called ?

Then put your right hand the body above the blade guides , and pull and push with your right hand

If the saw is constructed rigidly these will be no flex / movement

I was in Axminsters yesterday buying some blades for my new saw and while I was there checked out the other models !! and boy was there some flex in other models even costing 3 times the price

Luckily the one that was my gift looks the most solid

I will do a review when I have it up and running :wink: :wink:

I've got an Evenwood bandsaw, dunno how old it is. Came with a burnt out 3 phase motor, single speed, plastic covers, rubbish guides, and plastic wheels with no tyres.
But you couldn't flex the frame if you hit it with fork truck! It's cut from a single piece of half inch plate with welded on stiffeners.
The rest I sorted. I think I must be a masochist.

I was looking at the same sort of size saw a few month back and went for the (Felder) Hammer N4400 it is about £800 so quite a bit cheaper than the others, they have an offer on at the moment.
http://mk.felder-gruppe.at/?page=news&id=989 .I have used it most days and very pleased so far.
