Nice sharp blade mangler!

Agree!

Also I can never understand why people pay money for those metal dogs
A bit of wood dowel does exactly the same job for nowt

I used to have one of those on my old bench. It worked ok and I never drove a plane (or my hand) into it. I found it annoying having to wind it up and down though, and the housing had to be clear of dust and shavings before the stop would go fully down. I've now gone back to a traditional wooden stop that simply slides up and down.

I have one and find it very useful. The "teeth" provide a really good grip.

Thanks for that, Dave. I've got a simple wooden stop on my bench, though it is fitted into a Record casting (No 169, bought new in a toolshop when both of those things were normal).

I've also got one of those metal dogs, at the back of a drawer, not yet fitted. I think it might stay there!

I've never noticed PS using his one.
Me neither. Like the OP, I saw it and went a-Googling just the other month. Seen some very badly mortised ones, too.
Some people say the teeth can really mangle your wood (fnar fnar), with the suggestion that you put a bit of scrap against the dog and then use that as the stop for the workpiece...

I suspect it was a good idea in principle, that didn't work so well in practice once people bought the finished item.
