Taught us how to spell?

Just like Burma is an incorrect spelling of Myanmar. :p

Rumania is an alternative spelling for the current Romania, and probably taught to many people in geography lessons in school. :)

Romania

Romania (Listeni/roʊˈmeɪniə/ roh-may-nee-ə; Romanian: România [romɨˈni.a] ( listen)), formerly also spelled Roumania[9][10] and Rumania,[11][12] is a country located at the crossroads of Southeastern and Central Europe, on the Lower Danube, north of the Balkan Peninsula and the western shore of the Black Sea. Romania shares a border with Hungary and Serbia to the west, Ukraine and Moldova to the northeast and east, and Bulgaria to the south. At 238,391 square kilometres (92,043 sq mi), Romania is the ninth largest country of the European Union by area, and has the 7th largest population of the European Union with 20,121,641 people (October 2011). Its capital and largest city is Bucharest – the 6th largest city in the EU.

Normally I'm not much of a classical style fan, (in fact, don't really know if that is classical), but I listened all the way through - very nice.

Thanks for posting the link.

My pleasure!
It's a formalised arrangement of trad tunes and so is traditional, but played by classically trained players. Feet in both camps, as is a lot of classical music. It also comes under the heading of Klezmer but the boundaries are always indistinct e.g. Klezmer is a big influence in American jazz.
It just happens that I'm trying to get our own village group to play it.

We look forward to a posted video to enjoy. :lol: :lol: :lol:

Not sure think it's a zither.

From the Wiki page linked to by nanscombe:
"English-language sources still used the terms Rumania or Roumania, derived from the French spelling Roumanie and/or the Greek Ρουμανία, as recently as World War II,[24] but the name has since been replaced with the official spelling Romania.[25]"

I have no idea how old Jacob is, but I guess he could have been at school as recently as World War II, so I withdraw my snarky remark.
Nice piece of music, too.

I'm pretty sure I have only heard the usage of Romania in the last few years as I've known the place as Rumania for the best part of 50 years.

Fair enough. Why post a link to an article that says otherwise, then?

All that means is that I hadn't heard, or rather seen, it as Romania.

There seems to have been a lot of rebranding recently.

Burma -> Myanmar
Ceylon -> Sri Lanka
Bombay -> Mumbai
Oil of Ulay -> Olay
Lemon Jif (cleaner) -> Cif lemon
Marathon -> Snickers

:lol:

It wor Rumania when ar worra lad.
We've been looking forwards to the new Rumanian neighbours we've been promised. Could bring a bit of life to this place - and join our band! No sign of them yet. When they get here we'll play them our tune to make them feel at home. We might need a bit more practice - don't want them clearing off immediately. :roll:
