It's a formalised arrangement of trad tunes and so is traditional, but played by classically trained players. Feet in both camps, as is a lot of classical music. It also comes under the heading of Klezmer but the boundaries are always indistinct e.g. Klezmer is a big influence in American jazz.
It just happens that I'm trying to get our own village group to play it.
