So just wondered how many of you had problems?

Jury seems out as to whether it was Sony's fault or the changes to the Freeview EPG but suffice to say thousands of Sony Freeview recorders suddenly stopped working and, at least in my case, were to all intents and purposes dead as a dodo.

I managed to cajole mine into sorting itself out but reading some of the threads on other forums it appears that many people went out on saturday to buy new machines....only to find their original Sony machine burst back into life!

Sounds like an over the air up grade went wrong, you can set them not to scan for up grades, I wouldn't normally but our PVR in the bedroom used to come on at 1:00 in the morning.

No they didn't send one out. What happened was something changed/went wrong with the EPG guide which resulted in corrupt data. But this corruption made the Sony's very unhappy.

I seem to recall that when the Freeview spec was written there were quite a few 'to be implemented later' or 'not sure how to do this bit...it's up to you, recorder-makers'. And so different makers went about interpreting the 'rules' differently. Probably nothing at all to do with this particular event, though!

Had the exact same problem - dead as a dodo. Fortunately we have another set top box so left the Sony for over 24hours on standby so any automatic updates could take place - programme list came back.

I now have to apologise to the daughter as she had been the last to use it before the problem and I gave her an ear full for messing around with all the controls
