Hi

Finally (more than 5 years after buying it!) I've begun using my lathe regularly, in large part due to becoming a member of a new woodturning group. I've got an old Record CL2 lathe - it's a blue one which I'm told means that it was all Sheffield made. Does anyone have any views about fitting it with variable speed which will be about £400 including the ability to reverse rotation or is it not a worthwhile addition to this lathe and I should keep saving for a more substantial lathe?

Any views welcome!

Cheers

Stewart

I upgraded my CL2(also a blue one) with the variable speed kit about 12 years ago. So far, it has not let me down and is the best thing I ever did. It is a joy to be able to go from high speed to low without having to change pulleys.I would recommend this upgrade to anyone as the added use far outweighs the cost.
Frank.

Hi

If the CL2 suits your needs I'd go for the upgrade - I upgraded my CL3 about 8 years ago, I've never looked back.

Regards Mick
