hi started having trouble with my lathe it keeps cutting out ,then after a short wait it you can turn it back on then it runs for a short time then it will go again wait turn it on then runs for a shorter time each time if you leave it for about 10 minutes it will run for quite a long time the quicker you turn it back on the quicker it go of.
it sounds like it is over heating but it doesn't feel that hot (motor) could there be any other thing getting hot,
could it be the switch ,
is there anything in the motor that is shutting the motor of.

I have a Graduate in the workshop at school, and from memory I think that there's a contactor located close to the motor somewhere with a thermal overload device on it, it sounds as if this thermal overload has come to the end of it's life.

Unfortunately I won't be at school for another week, but if you can wait that long, I'll have a look to see where exactly it's located and what needs changing.
