Unhandled chisels

Hey all...

I am looking for merchants of unhandled chisels so i can make my own handles on it...
The ones you can buy in the specialist stores are allright but sometimes i want to have just a bigger handle on it...
I have searched the web and not seen a good complete range of chisels.

So where and who has them, and how can i get them....

Check out benmail for price comparisons.... they usually have an ad in the mags.... recommend a quick browse on WHSmiff's shelves...

Unfortunately the owner of Benmail passed away recently and they are no longer trading.

Most dealers will order unhandled chisels all the big manufacturers do unhandled options but they are not that popular with people and often only about £1.50 cheaper than a handled chisel

Thanks for the update Russell... I don't bother with the mags these days plus it's a year or three since I last dealt with Benmail...

While on the subject of handles I would be interested in where you could get handle inserts that could be used to hold interchangeable blades / chisels / gouges.

Anyone any ideas?

the Hamlet multi handle can be used for any chisel unhandled Hamlet chisel and probably lots of others as well

To be honest its a real pain in the bum and I only use it when I want to keep weight down in my tool box. I find it slows me down too much swapping handles. It does save you any money and it makes me loose my rhythm. and the balance of the tool is difficult to get used to each time you swop

The site also has handle adaptors and Thread-Lok ferrules which were mentioned in a recent Woodturning magazine.

I haven't tried any of them but did make my own out of a brass pipe fitting from B&Q and a hex-bolt.
