Trend and DeWalt have identical collets. That said, I bought the 1/4" one for my T11 (exactly the same router apart from the base and depth arrangements), as a spare part (Miles Tools in Yeovil, I think, but it was a while ago now).

Unusually it was loads cheaper than if bought as an accessory. Worth finding the part no and casting about to see if that's still the case. We've discussed the collet nut before, but I prefer to keep the two as one unit. Again the nut was cheaper as a 'spare' than an accessory.

HTH,

PS: Like you, I woudn't use a 'pattern part' in this application either. But the DW and the Trend (and at least one 'model' of CMT) came from the same factory, and bits really are interchangeable.

Hi Eric, yep, I know the other models are similar.

The reason I didn't recommend them is because I'm not 100% sure they're the same, or fit. I say that because I'd previoulsy noticed on Trend's site they have two separate collet numbers. One for their own machine and the other for all Elu/CMT/DeWalt versions of that type, though the pics of the collet LOOK the same!

T10/11 Collet - no mention of fitting anything else

ELU Collet mentions others its for

I wonder if theres a difference in the T11'S Nut - or how the collet fits in it?

No reason why there would be.

The part numbers for the T10 and T11 collets were the same when I last looked on Miles' site.

The Elu was a very long time ago now, and I can see that re-engineering the production line at some point might have resulted in a change of thread or cone angle or similar, but routers of similar age would be the same - why would you alter it?

Trend might have changed something very recently, too. I could see someone "in marketing" thinking that a slightly steeper collet cone might be a good idea, to get round the 'two bites' thing with the spanner when you're undoing the collet, but there's a counter-argument that it's sacrificing safety for ease of use.

Personally I'd contact Miles tools - I've always found them very helpful on the 'phone. They'll know if there's a reason for the part numbers. Of course, it might just be Trend wanting to track usage, but it's unlikely.
