Hi all,

Now this may seem a bit of a silly question - but being a total novice, I am quite stuck on how to get the ball rolling!
What is the best way to acquire timber for a project? I'll only be working on small projects right now such as birdboxes and other bits and bobs, I wasn't sure if a building merchant was a good start or whether I should just head down to Wickes or somewhere simlar. And even better - if you know of any good timber suppliers around north London/Hertfordshire then that would be a huge help!

Many thanks,
John (hammer)

For small projects you should be able to pick up what you need on Ebay, I see some of the Ebay suppliers also offer a machining service so if you're new to woodworking and don't have many tools you could get a cutting list made up.

if your not to fussy about the condition of the wood try a wood recycling centre were you can sort some good pieces and haggle on prices there is one at Milton park Abingdon Oxfordshire but I am sure there would one closer to your area

Not far from J9 of the M1 are these people - might be worth giving them a ring. I used them a few times and found the prices to be good.
