I bought a tenon saw recently. I'm quite pleased with the condition (spine and blade are both straight - which is not normally the case in my experience  ).

12"; 12ppi; steel back; London pattern handle; split nuts (one missing).

I'm having difficulty with the brand. It looks to me to say "THE LOXLEY SAW/SHEFFIELD", but nothing shows up when I do a search on Loxley, nor Oxley.

Can anyone help?

Cheers, Vann.

Can you give the text a bit of a scrub in all directions with a short bristled brush e.g. nail brush or suede brush? That often makes the text clearer/cleaner.

(edit; posts crossed - or just use SteveF's answer!)

Only thing to add is that Loxley is a river, with a road and area of Sheffield named after it. Strangely not near Attercliffe where this manufacturer was based.

Ahh. So Samuel Newbold of Sanderson Brothers and Newbould owned Loxley old wheel from 1807(?) to 1884.

How do you find all this stuff ?
