Does anyone know if the Startrite 301 can be removed from the lower base? Thanks

Yes, it can. Four bolts.
When new they were supplied separate from the base and it needed assembly.

That's great to know. I'm collecting one tomorrow in my wife's car so now I know it'll definitely fit. Thanks for taking the time to help.

They were originally supplied with a double ended ring spanner 13mm & 19mm which fits all the nuts on the machine. You may like to take your own in case it's been lost.
For transport it's advisable to remove the table as well, it's pretty heavy in itself. To get it off you'll need to take off the fence guide (3 or 4 bolts underneath) and then a single 19mm nut holds it on. Be careful not to loose any of the washers and bits that support the table though.
Don't try to remove the motor, that's a world of pain to refit and align.

Great little saws. Get a good Tuff saws blade and you'll be happy slicing through anything that will fit under the guides!
